Obituary

WAHLFIELD, James “Jim” E. Wahlfield Sr., age 88, of Comstock Park, was peacefully called to heaven after a battle with cancer surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 31, 2019. Jim is proceeded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruth Wahlfield; siblings and in-laws, Margaret (Duane) Waters, Donald (Theresa) Wahlfield, Phyllis (Joe) Dunneback and Fritz Sr., (Marlene) Wahlfield; nephews, Patrick Waters and Bob Wahlfield; brother-in-laws, Richard Rasch, Carl Rasch and Irwin Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jeanette; children Mike (Jean) Wahlfield, Sue (Ed) Labanowski, Pat Wahlfield, Mark Wahlfield and Jim (Jeanie) Wahlfield; grandchildren, Amy, Kelly and Andrew (Deanna) Wahlfield, Alison and Mark (Bri) Labanowski, Devra (Matt) Lowing, Jessica (Anthony) Cunningham, Ashley and Neal Wahlfield; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Brooklynn Lowing, Henrick, Bennett Cunningham; brother-in-law, Jack Rasch; sisters-in-law, Margaret Miller, Marilyn Rasch and Julia Rasch; many nieces, nephews and cousins. His family wishes to give special thanks to Spectrum Health Hospice for their care given to Jim.

Jim was a proud third generation well driller. He was a local legend and “Mayor” of Alpine. Anyone who encountered Jim soon became a victim of his quick wit and his innocent boyish grin. Jim and Jeanette enjoyed Western square dancing for over 30 years. He was well respected by his family and many friends throughout his lifetime. After his retirement he enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Pickerel Lake with the grandchildren. He truly loved fishing with all of the grandchildren on their pontoon boat. Jim loved checking out his sons' job sites where they were drilling new wells or repairing old sites he had worked on. He was always willing to visit people who could no longer get out. Jim was known for being very social and his sweet tooth.

Jim proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3104 since age 18.

The Wahlfield family will receive family and friends at Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue N.W., Comstock Park, MI on Friday, January 3, 2020 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., the Rosary will be lead by Deacon Jerry Roersma (young feller as Jim would say) and niece Shelly Wahlfield at 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11:30 a.m., with a visitation one hour prior to the Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1200 Alpine Church Road, Comstock Park, celebrated by Rev. Father Thomas Simons and under the auspice of the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will held in the Spring of 2020 in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Please consider contributions in Jim's memory to Spectrum Health Hospice, or Holy Trinity Catholic School.
