Obituary

Allan E. Brown of Comstock Park, age 75, died on Thursday, April 13, 2023 after battling cancer for a dozen years. He is survived by his wife Nancy (Feist), who he married in 1986. He is also survived by his sisters, Monica Zahm, Ann (Gerald) Wesolowski; sisters-in-law, Judie Brown, Joyce Brown, Sue Luurtsema; brother-in-law, Larry (Mary Ann) Feist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Bethel Brown; brothers, Adrian and Nathan Brown; brothers-in-law, Don Zahm, Bob Luurtsema, Ron (Gloria) Feist. After graduating from West Catholic High School in 1965, he served in the U.S. Army for two years. He worked alongside his father as a carpenter for A. Reendeer Construction, before going full time as the author of the National Speedway Directory and other auto racing reference books. He took over the Directory from it's founder Larry Yard in 1980, along with new partners Ross and Nanette Ferguson. The Directory became the industry standard for reference guides for auto racing venues in the U.S. and Canada. Allan and Nancy acquired the Ferguson's portion in 1989 and continued until their retirement in 2009. Allan and Nancy were fortunate to travel extensively and visited hundreds of auto racing facilities in North America promoting their publications. Allan also published the National Late Model Annual, Michigan Auto Racing Guide, the History of America's Speedway (past & present), and the National S Car Annual. Over the years Allan had received numerous awards including the prestigious Stu Reamer Award for Lifetime Service to the Weekly Auto Racing Industry. He was also inducted in various Hall of Fame's including the National S Car Hall of Fame, the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame, The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame, and the Living Legends of Auto Racing. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 18, 11:00 am at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Belmont. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, Wright Township. Friends and relatives may meet the family at Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Ave, on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, where a rosary will be prayed starting at 7:30 pm. Allan will lie in state one hour prior to mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church or Boys Town, PO Box 6000, Boys Town, NE 68010. Service Details.
