Obituary

Barry Randall Cooper, born on December 11, 1955, in the bustling city of Detroit, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A man of warmth and charm, Barry's journey on this earth spanned 69 years of love, laughter, and music, leaving a legacy of joy and kindness in his wake. As the third of eight spirited children, Barry's early life was filled with the bustling energy of a large family. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Maynard and Jackie Cooper, and his brothers, Ken, Tim, and Kurt Cooper. Barry also held fond memories of his nephews, Scott Cooper and Ethan Carie, and his niece, Nicole Cooper, who all passed before him. Barry's radiant life continued to shine through his surviving sisters: Penny (Gary) Kriesch, Shannon (Pat) Rooney, and Julie Cooper; his brothers, Jeff and Michael Cooper, were also a testament to the close-knit family he was proud to be a part of. His many nieces and nephews, to whom he was a beloved uncle, will forever cherish the precious moments they shared and the unconditional love he bestowed upon them and the pride he felt with all of them for their accomplishments. For 27 years, Barry dedicated his professional life to Sam's Club, where he retired with a sense of fulfillment and pride. His colleagues fondly remember his smile and sweet character, which became the hallmark of his presence in the workplace. Barry's gentle spirit and the joy he took in his work left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of working alongside him. Beyond his professional life, Barry's passions were the melodies of life itself—music and guitars. Whether it was strumming a tune, traveling to new destinations, or belting out songs at karaoke and concerts, Barry embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm. An avid fan of the lazy river's gentle flow, he found peace in the simple pleasure of floating along with the current. A Life Boy Scout, Barry's commitment to the principles of scouting was evident in his everyday actions. His kind heart and the contagious smile were his badges of honor, and he wore them with humility. He was a man who faced life's challenges without complaint, always focusing on the positive and the good in people. As someone who never lost sight of the importance of joy and the gift of the present moment, Barry embodied the wisdom of the well-known quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air." His love for life was as boundless as the sky and as deep as the ocean. Barry Randall Cooper's memory will be cherished as a gentle breeze that uplifted the spirits of those around him. His absence will be felt, but the echoes of his laughter, the strum of his guitar, and the light of his smile will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew him. As we bid farewell to Barry, we celebrate a life well-lived, rich in experiences and overflowing with love. He has left this world for the next stage of his journey, but his spirit remains with us, reminding us to cherish each moment and to live with kindness and a smile that can warm the coldest day. Barry's life story is a beautiful melody composed of the notes of his character, the rhythm of his passions, and the harmony of his relationships. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded to carry forward the joy and love he shared so generously. Rest in peace, Barry Randall Cooper; your song will play on in our hearts forever. Today we celebrate with joy and smiles that Barry is with God and family. NO DISABILITIES, NO PAIN and just blue skies and smiles. Oh!! And his guitars and music.
