ANDERSON - Bertha M. "Bert" "Pinky" Anderson, age 84, of Sparta, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 after a long, tough, 13-year journey with dementia. Bert was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Anderson; parents, Nigel and Olive Young; in-laws, Walter and Lois Anderson; brother and sister in-law, Vernon and Barbara Young. She is survived by her loving children, Donald "Tom" and Nancy Anderson, Diana VanOeffelen, Beth Sproat, Debra Myszka, Duane and Kelly Anderson; her beloved 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Marilyn Race and Eva Anderson; many nieces, nephews, and very special family friends, Julie and Jim Bresko. Bert grew up in Rockford, Michigan. She was a graduate of Rockford High School where she participated in various clubs and activities. She worked at the Rockford Dairy Bar for several years and met the love of her life, Don "Dub". They married and together started their family in Sparta. Besides being a wonderful wife, Bert was also schoolroom-mother, 4H leader, and bible school teacher during her children's younger lives. Her talents and creativity were next to none. Her love of decorating cakes landed her many placements in National Cake Magazines throughout the years. She was a 49-year standing member of the National Bowling Association and a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church. Bert was an integral part of Green Lane Farms with her husband. Together with the kids, they traveled all over the state showing top prize cattle. Bert enjoyed spending time in her yard, traveling with her husband throughout the United States, gambling, playing cards, throwing parties, weekends at the cottage, volunteering at the church food bank, and spending time with friends and family. Bert was always the life of the party and willing to lend a helping hand. She brought joy to so many over the years and will be deeply missed by all and, most certainly, never forgotten. Pinky's Palace (a non-profit organization) was established in 2013 to help other families in Kent County affected by dementia. Bert's long and difficult journey was the catalyst for this endeavor and has helped countless families throughout the community. A special "thank you" and our deepest gratitude to Holland Hospice of West Michigan and Bert's special caregivers: Mary Walcott, Julie McCune, and Janet Lozano. The family will receive family and friends at Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue, Comstock Park, on Friday, March 19, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service celebrating Bert's life will be held at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, 4085 Lutheran Church Road, Kent City on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior at the church, with Pastor Michael Conklin officiating.
