SHAFER - Betty A. Shafer, age 88, of Alpine Township fought a hard battle near the end of her life and is now reunited with her husband of 50 years, Gustave "Jack," and her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 18, 2018. Betty is also preceded in death by her brother, Fred (Esther) Glass and sister, Arlene (Roy) Despins. She is survived by her beloved children, Nancy (Norm) Grinnell, Sally (Kevin) VanHorn, Julie Shafer, Kerry Emelander and Jack (Yolanda) Shafer; grandchildren, Amanda (David) Cousineau, Eric Grinnell, Peter (Jenny) VanHorn, Jennifer (Jeff) Bowman, Ben VanHorn, Cynthia Emelander (Mark Tharp), Kyle, Jared and Elaina Shafer; great-grandchildren, Megan, Ryan and Nathan Cousineau, Alex VanHorn and Caleb Bowman; brother, Karl (Shirley) Glass; sister-in-law, Leta Miller, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty loved flowers, butterflies and humming birds. She was a practical nurse and later was a stay at home mother to raise her wonderful family. Betty enjoyed collecting and had several extensive unique collections. The family will receive family and friends at the Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue, Comstock Park on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be offered on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11:00 A.M., with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Beuschel Funeral Home, with Pastor Phil Friedrick officiating from Sparta United Methodist Church. A procession to Alpine Pine Grove Cemetery will follow. Please note: If sending flowers the family has allergies to chrysanthemums (mum plants).
