Betty Kay Van Horn, age 77, passed away surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer. Kay was a very special lady, who loved her family and God. She was born on November 29, 1947 in Detroit, MI to Alex and Susie Corene (Hunter) Humphrey. Kay was a longtime member of the College Road Church of Christ (formerly Husson Ave) in Palatka, FL and the Southside Church of Christ in Grand Rapids, MI. She was also a lifelong fan of the Detroit Lions. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Corene Humphrey; brothers, Jerry P., Kevin M., Bobby Ray, Johnny, and Jimmy Lee Humphrey; sister, Kristie J. Humphrey; niece, Brandi Humphrey. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Rich Van Horn; daughter, Kim (Ed) Thorpe; sons, David (Theresa) Van Horn, Jason (Julie) Van Horn; grandchildren, Lisa (Jake) Hoffman, Amanda (Hank) Lawrence, Devinie (Nate) Sanders, Tristan Van Horn, Reagan Van Horn, Navey Van Horn, Hunter Van Horn; great grandchildren, Luke E. Hoffman, Ella G. Hoffman, Isaac W. Hoffman, Knox P. Sanders; sister, Gail (Dave) Workman; brother, Keith (LeAnn) Humphrey; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13, 11:00 am at Southside Church of Christ, 1304 36th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI, Fredrick Klein officiating. Friends and relatives may meet the family at church one hour before the service from 10:00 - 11:00 am for a visitation. Interment Plainfield Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations in Kay's name to Church of Christ Disaster Relief or Faith Hospice.
