IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Brian John
Pekala
March 7, 1957 – November 24, 2024
Brian John Pekala, who was 67 years old, died peacefully in his home with his beloved, Mary C. Riley, by his side, on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Brian was the son of Stan and Nina Pekala, and brother of Carl Pekala, all of whom preceded him in death. He was born on March 7, 1957, and raised in Warren, Michigan. He was a boy scout and a skilled forklift mechanic. He then traveled to Florida, because he so loved the sunny warm weather. That is where he and Mary first met and embarked upon their humble beginnings, recognizing their common and keen interest in bird watching and other fun adventures! They lived a simple and yet deeply beautiful life on their farm in Sparta where he cared for many animals, including 3 donkeys, sheep, chickens, and dogs. Brian loved his dogs; he was the faithful friend. He was an avid collector of coins, stamps, and cars, and took seriously of each with cunning and proficiency. He supported Mary in all her endeavors and was regarded as the "Prop Master." His sense of humor will not be forgotten, his grin, his hair, and his generous spirit, are all trademarks that will be remembered with a smile.
Brian is survived by his wife, Mary, her sisters, Beth and Leslie, his cherished mother-in-law, Angeline Riley, and their nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on January 4, 2025, at the Sparta Civic Center 75 N. Union Street Sparta, Michigan 49345 from 11:00 am -2:00 pm. Brian was always a mild tempered man, thoughtful and at peace with himself and his surroundings. Remember him with a soft breath of gratitude. Mary will be accepting donations for the Sandhill Crane Trust which will be her continued journey to honor Brian's life.
