Obituary

LANGLOIS, BRUCE D., June 14, 1935 - June 17, 2016 of Comstock Park Bruce Langlois had one speed, fast. Wearing his signature flannel shirt and blue jeans, he would hop in his pickup truck and race to get the next job done. In the early 1950's the excitement of seeing the world while serving his country inspired Bruce to join the Navy. He worked as a diesel mechanic on a destroyer during the Korean War. Those were some of the best times in his life even though many years later he found an unexpected stowaway from the navy, mesothelioma that has taken his life. After his time in the Navy, Bruce married Mary (Fouty) and soon there were three kids keeping him busy: Bruce, Joel, and Kim. In 1967 Bruce started Pak Sak Industries, a polyethylene bag manufacturing company. After selling Pak Sak in the late 1970's Bruce went from making plastic bags to recycling them. Bruce and his son, Joel, started Beta Enterprises in 1979 well before recycling was common place. Then with the purchase of an old John Widdicomb building on 5th Street, 1980 Delta Properties was born. Bruce, Mary, and family started renting space. One building led to another and before they knew it Delta Properties owned 5,000,000 square feet of commercial and industrial space. More companies came into the family business including English Hills Country Club and Terrace, DeltaPlex, and a grocery store on St. Croix USVI among others. As the businesses grew, Joel (Lee Anne Steil) stepped in as President of Delta Properties, Kim (Steve Sorrelle) ran English Hills Country Club and Terrace, and son Bruce (Stacy Van Allsburg) became a veterinarian. Before long the grand babies started coming: Bruce, Brian, Kelsey, Nicholas and Marc Langlois, Tessa, Lindsey, Taylor, and Aaron Langlois, and Amanda, Paul, Luke, and Noah Sorrelle. In 1990 Bruce's wife and business partner, Mary, passed away. After grieving heavily for a period of time, Bruce met and soon married Joanne Talsma. Joanne came into the family with four kids of her own: Christine (Stephen) McLean, Brenda (Richard) Trudell, Douglas (Bethann) Talsma, and Pamela (Douglas) Prins. More grandchildren were added as well: Alexander, Justin, and Katherine Trudell, Olivia, Stephen, and Grace McLean, and Natasha, Liam, and Keara Prins. Bruce pretended to retire but continued working everyday not just at the family businesses but also helping out at Senior Neighbors and mentoring small business owners. His greatest passion was helping people in need around the world, so in 2000 he created a non-profit organization to do just that. Rays of Hope for Haiti, now Rays of Hope International, is carrying on his legacy. Many other family members, friends, and now great grandchildren will also be looking forward to seeing him again in Heaven. Bruce's legacy is long reaching. Countless have and still are being touched by his 81 years of life. Family and friends will be greeted at the Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue NW, Comstock Park on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Monday, June 20, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with a Rosary Service at 7:30 PM, with Fr. Jose Quintana. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate and honor Bruce's life will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1200 Alpine Church Road, Comstock Park, with Fr. Jose Quintana and Fr. Thomas G. Simons officiating. Interment will be held in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery with the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. In honor of Bruce's generous spirit, in lieu of flowers a donation may be given to one of his favorite charities: Rays of Hope International, St. Francis Xavier and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church of Grand Rapids, Senior Neighbors, or West Catholic Alumni Plaza.
