THOMAS- Darlene M. Thomas, age 96, of Walker, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 10, 2020. She is preceded in death by her first husband of 9 years, Donald Harris; second husband of 17 years, Chester Thomas; and sisters, Marjorie TenBrink and Francis Kay Shanahan; and son-in-law, Philip Russell. Darlene is survived by her daughter, Camella A. Russell; grandchildren, Parry Russell, Paige (Mark) TeHennepe, and Candice Russell; great-grandchildren, Ezran TeHennepe, Eli TeHennepe, and Jordyn TeHennepe; sister, Carolyn (Ray) Berg; brother-in-law, William TenBrink; and many nieces and nephews. Darlene and Donald Harris were married on Dec. 26, 1942 in Battle Creek. Donald was a volunteer firefighter who gave his life alongside the fire chief while fighting a housefire in 1951. Darlene married Chester Thomas on August 10, 1960. She retired from Grand Rapids Community College as an admissions secretary. Darlene's true passion was breeding Arabian horses and she was a member of the West Michigan Arabian Horse Association. She was a life long member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. A private burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at Grandville Cemetery with Chaplain Cecilio Reyna. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
