David Apted Miling, Age 88, former Lieutenant of the Grand Rapids Fire Department and Navy Veteran went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Doris Miling; brothers, James and Jack Miling; in-Laws, George and Margaret LaFave; brothers-in-law, Kenneth LaFave and Gerald Waddell. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ruthann Miling (LaFave); children, Linda (Pete) Lehmann, Mike (Jenny) Miling, Karen (Rick) Cordes, Shelley (Craig) Kunst, 10 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. Dave was a graduate of Creston High School where he was a star football player. After his time in the Navy, he became a Grand Rapids Fire Fighter where he would find a whole family of life-long friends. In these early years, Dave was an avid camper and fisherman. After retirement he enjoyed his time traveling with his 5th wheel especially to Gulf Shores, but Dave's greatest pleasure of all was his cottage on Blue Lake in Fountain, Michigan surrounded by his family sharing in the "camaraderie". To all who knew Dave, he will be remembered as "The Great Storyteller". The poems he would recite were always the delight to many, but especially his grandchildren. Also, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 6 at Orchard Hill Church, 1465 3 Mile Rd NW, Grand Rapids with the Funeral Services immediately following at 11:00 am.
