SHEPHERD - David D. Shepherd, age 73, began his journey to God's Heavenly Kingdom, as he passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Jean Shepherd, and by his parents-in-law, Gordon and Florence Navan. Surviving is his devoted wife and loving caregiver of eleven years, Janice (Navan, Vaughn) Shepherd. Also living are his sister, Suki Shepherd, with brother-in-law, Hal Heistand; four children, Misti (Terry) Sherman, Robin (Blair) Gilley with granddaughter, Olivia, Matthew (Bekah) Shepherd, with grandson Richie, and Leah Shepherd. Additional survivors are numerous in-laws, extended family members, long-time friends, Sandie Shepherd with Richard Gregurich, and special friends and staff at David's Metron Subacute Care Facility. Family was indeed important to David, and he kept in touch with relatives frequently. He thrived on interaction with people wherever he went. David's career years were spent in retail sales where he was highly regarded and fondly dubbed "Curly Dave". He will surely be remembered for his good manners and attitude of appreciation, his ready supply of puns, as well as his interesting collections. Among his treasures were paperweights, ice cream scoops, model cars, coins, rocks, gems, marbles and anything nautical. David loved travel, little specialty shops, and nature. He attributed fascinating cloud formations, breath-taking Autumn colors, and every spectacular sunset to God's divine artistry. The family will receive family and friends at the Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue, Comstock Park on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 10:00 a.m., to 12:00 p.m., with the celebration of David's life following at noon, with Rev. Father Rock Badgerow and Pastor Matthew Shepherd officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Association of West Michigan or the American Diabetes Association in memory of David.
