FITZPATRICK - Donald Joseph Fitzpatrick, age 83, of Sparta, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 6, 2018. Don was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joan, who passed away July 10, 2017; his parents, Joseph and Louise Fitzpatrick; daughter-in-law, Jean Fitzpatrick and sister-in-law, Paulette Fitzpatrick. He is survived by his children, Gerard and Karen Fitzpatrick, Cathleen and Joseph Tallman, Daniel Fitzpatrick, David and Darla Fitzpatrick; brother, Ed Fitzpatrick; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Don was a lifetime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Sparta. Don served three years in the United States Army Medical Corps. He retired from General Motors after 33 years in skilled trades. Don enjoyed snowmobiling and cutting wood. He will especially be loved and remembered for his sense of humor and the witty crowd pleaser he was. Don and Joan enjoyed 25 years of warm winters in Arizona where they were lifetime members of the Desert Country Musicians. Don was also a member of the Thornapple Valley Dulcimer Society, where he performed music with Joan in Nashville, Michigan. The family will greet family and friends at Holy Family Catholic Church, 425 South State Street, Sparta on Friday, April 13, 2018 with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. and visitation following. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Msgr. Terrence L. Stewart as celebrant. Private inurnment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery and under the auspice of the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. The family expresses their thanks to the staff at Meadowlark for their kind and compassionate care of Don and Joan over the past several years.
