LONG - Donald E. Long, age 87, of Grand Rapids, passed into heaven in the Lord's arms, with his family at his side on Sunday, September 15, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Florence Ruster; twin infant grandsons Ryan and Adam Long; brothers, Jim (Mary Kay) Ruster and Bobby Long; and sister, Evelyn (Paul) Treece. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marilyn; children, Greg (Dawn) Long and Carolyn (Steve) Frozley; grandchildren, Kyle, Brendan, Max and Allie; brother, Rich (Linda) Ruster; and sister-in-law, Aggie Ruster. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a devoted and much loved husband, father and grandfather who put his family first, and whose grandchildren were especially dear to him. Donald enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Big Bass Lake, and was a dedicated fan of the Detroit Tigers. The family will receive family and friends at Second Congregational Church, 525 Cheshire Drive, Grand Rapids at 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Donald's life at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2019, with Pastor Steve Armfield as celebrant.
