BRIGGS - Donna Marie (Wise) Briggs, age 91, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021. She was born in Conklin, MI on August 6, 1930. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Wendell L. Briggs; parents William and Martha (VanOeffelen) Wise and siblings, Fritz (Verna) Wise, and Mildred (Ike) Bylsma. She is survived by her children Tom (Joan) Briggs, Bill (LuAnn) Briggs, Louann (Roger) Larsen, Sandy (Ken) Wyrick, Heidi (Stuart) Davey and David (Dawn) Briggs; grandchildren, Lindsey (Kevin) VanderWoude, Alan (Laurie) Woodstra, Brad Briggs (Angela Chastain, fiancée), Angela (Jay) Brown, Keri (Brian) Kujala, Luke (Michelle) Cole, Ashley (Nick) Hiser, Emma Wyrick, McKenzie (Carlos) Gonzales, Meredith Davey, Seth Davey, Curtis Davey, Ellie Briggs, Cori Briggs, Tara (Andy) Poore, Brooke (Lance) McKinney and Tyler (Madeline) VanHoven. Great-grandchildren; Koby and Kyan VanderWoude, Ava and Carly Woodstra, Kellyn Briggs, Coy and Wren Brown, William, Spencer and Scottlyn Kujala, Renin, Connor and Clara Cole, Colten and Maverick Hiser, Hadley and Rowan Poore, Nora, Hudson, Liam and Oliver McKinney and Vanessa VanHoven. Donna is also survived by her brother Ken (Delores) Wise. As a young girl, Donna grew up on a farm. She met Wendell (Wendy) at a Plainfield Township Fire Department fundraiser dance. On her first date with Wendy, in a car with seven others, the driver crashed and most of them had to go to the hospital. Fortunately she only got two black eyes. Everything was up from there. They married on April 15, 1950 in Belmont and shared a wonderful adventure after that. Donna and Wendell hand built their home in Plainfield Township, which she lived in and from where she fed her cherished cardinals for over 70 years. Their home was always filled with neighbors, friends and family. She was a great cook with a big heart who never let anyone leave her house hungry. For years she taught sewing to 4-H kids to exhibit at the Kent County Youth Fair in Lowell. Donna was always known for lending a helping hand and volunteering for organizations in the community. She also was a member of the Rockford Sportsman's Club, served as a District Director of the Michigan United Conservation Club Women's League where for years helped distribute thousands of seedling in their annual tree giveaway at Vans Pines of West Olive, MI. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was on the Plainfield Township Historical Committee. Donna and Wendell owned the Grand Rogue Campground for 45 years and loved to host people from all over the world. Like her husband, Donna also enjoyed fishing, wildlife and environmental preservation. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a couple exchange students and several stray kids very dearly. Most especially, Gloria Kerby, an angel on Earth with Seniors Helping Seniors, Nancy Spencer, whom Mom enjoyed activities with and was chauffeured by after she stopped driving, Northview Senior Citizens Group and the staff from Edison Christian Home.
