GILBERT - Edwin E Gilbert, age 85, of Comstock Park, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 15, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine (Phillips) Gilbert; siblings, Donna Viola Gilbert, Donna Leola (Homer) Moore, and Donald (Wavaline) Gilbert Jr. Edwin is survived by his wife, Ethel Bristol Gilbert; children, Steven (Sue) Gilbert, Aleta (Mark) Potts, and Mary Gilbert; step-daughter, Leona Bristol-Rusco; siblings, Ross and Mary Lou Gilbert, Lois and David Boomgaard, and Carol Meyer; grandchildren, Stevie and Hanali Gilbert, Amber Potts, Eric Bray and Franklin Marshall; step-grandsons, Teddy Jones and Trevor (Melissa) Jones; and many nieces and nephews. Ed was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was very athletic as a young fellow and earned 12 varsity letters. Ed proudly served his country in the United States Marines. He published four books and was well known in the community. Ed Gilbert was a former member of Comstock Park Rotary and served as President in 1991-1992. He was also an author and historian and spoke occasionally as a speaker at later Rotary meetings. Ethel was married to Ed for six great years and they loved to do everything together. He was married to his first wife, Gerry, for 56 years and had three wonderful children. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and they know Ed is with Jesus now and that he loved the Lord. A private visitation will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2020 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Beuschel Funeral Home. Steve and Sue Gilbert and family will meet privately with family and friends from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Ethel Bristol-Gilbert and Leona Bristol-Rusco and family will meet privately with family and friends from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. A service of praise and thanksgiving of Edwin's life will be held at 6:00 p.m. by Pastor Doug Compton of Alpine Baptist Church. Social distancing practices will be able to be upheld and face masks will be available upon request. A private graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. under the auspice of the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard.
