Gale Anthony Scholten, age 75, passed away on December 29, 2023, at Corewell Health Butterworth
Hospital, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born on April 13, 1948, to Calvin and Christine (Galekovich)
Scholten. He was a lifelong resident of Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School in 1966.
Gale will be missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Donna (Yost) Scholten, who stood by him through life's
many adventures and challenges. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Bonny (Mike)
Brennan and Deb (Paul) Stacy, and by his treasured grandchildren Kelsey, Jacob, Josh, Leah, and Aaron.
He's survived by his brother, Mark Scholten, and his siblings-in-law, Marilyn and Jim Rewa, Rick and
Elaine Yost, Larry and Pam Yost, Mary Lou and Fred Weise, Theresa and Jeff Hertel, and Nancy and Chris
Jesko. Gale was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Christine Scholten; his parents-in-law,
Vernon and Frances Yost; his brother-in-law, Bernard Yost; and his sister-in-law, Ann Maluchnik.
Gale earned his Associate's Degree from Ferris State College and built a career as a technician in civil
engineering. He had an analytical mind and a creative spirit. Gale was a man of many interests and
talents, including woodworking, inventing, and tinkering, in addition to cultivating an endless supply of
dad jokes.
He also enjoyed many hobbies, including hiking, fishing, photography, and travel. In his younger years,
he was an avid bicyclist and completed the 24-Hour Challenge. In more recent years, a favorite pastime
was RVing, including several years of dry-camping on the Sonoran Desert in California where he and
Donna met many wonderful friends. In addition, Gale had a passion for amateur radio, having served as
president of the Michigan Amateur Radio Alliance ham radio club (call sign N8GS). He was a lifelong
Catholic who attended Holy Family in Sparta and then Holy Trinity in Comstock Park. He was also a
member of Knights of Columbus Council 4404.
On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, a visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Beuschel Funeral Home
(5018 Alpine Ave, Comstock Park). A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m., with Deacon Jerry Roersma
officiating.
On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, the funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic
Church (1200 Alpine Church Rd NW, Comstock Park) with Father Chris Rouech officiating. A visitation
will be held at Holy Trinity prior to the mass, starting at 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his honor can be made to the Holy Trinity Building Fund or
the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Burial will take place at a later date at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
