Gary Steven Lance, age 77, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023 surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Dorothy Lance; daughter, Erin Lance; brother, Dearl (Ruth) Lance. Gary is survived by his wife of over 16 years, Renee; children, Jay (Kimberly) Lance, Jennifer Lance (David Jones), Adam Lance (Nicole Birkett), Daniel Lance (Ashlea Phenicie), Taisia (Rudolph) Toliver; grandchildren, Sarah (Carter), Paige, Josh, Squid, Graye, Leo; great grandchildren, Bentley, Bryson, Sophia; brother, Tom (Karen) Lance; his life long friends whom he met in the 3rd grade at East Leonard Elementary, Mike Dunham, Terry McCarthy, Robin Teachout. Gary was a baseball and football player for Creston High School and a proud graduate of the class of 1964. Gary loved working with wood and could build and fix anything. He appreciated the little things in life such as sunrises and coffee. He was exceptionally considerate of others, and by example, instilled that value in his children and others. Gary was a past commander and current judge advocate of the American Legion Post 47. He was a proud veteran and proud American. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 8, 11:00 am at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 334 La Grave Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI. Friends and relatives may meet the family at Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Ave NW, Comstock Park, MI on Thursday, December 7 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. A Trisagion Service will take place at 7:00 pm followed by military honors at the funeral home. Family will also receive visitors one hour before the service at church from 10:00 - 11:00 am.
