George Michael Johns, known as "Mike", age 78, of Comstock Park, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2025, after a brief illness. He was born in Aurora, Illinois, on October 9, 1947, and raised in Plano, IL by the late Howard and Genevieve (Stephens) Johns. Mike graduated from Marmion Military Academy Aurora, Illinois, with the class of 1965. He went on to study engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology where he obtained a bachelor's degree in 1970.

Mike began working in foundries as a teenager at Monarch Foundry in Plano, IL owned by his late father. His work within industry took him to California, New Jersey, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan. In 1993 Mike moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan area where he worked as Senior Metallurgical Engineer at Betz Industries until his retirement in 2016. He fell in love with and married Cindy Rector in 1999. Mike loved dogs. He liked walking and traveling with his latest dog, Wolfie. Mike enjoyed visiting family and friends and Friday night happy hour with the Hiemstra's. He was an avid reader of books, enjoyed learning and would have been a great trivia partner. He desired to be a good golfer and had every app on his phone to improve his score. Survivors include his wife, Cindy; his children, Aaron (Shannon) Johns and Aimee Johns; grandchildren, Emily (Dawson) Bennett and Tyler Halmstad; 2 great grandsons, Jensen and Lucas Halmstad and a baby Bennett on the way; sisters, Chris (Dan) Kramer, Stephanie (David) Konsler, and Tracey (Jeff) Niles; sister-in-law, Sunny Johns; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives, and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Pat Johns; and faithful dog companion, Max. Per Mike's request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers Mike would have loved to see donations made to your local golden retriever rescue or humane society in his memory.

Mike's children would like to extend a special thank you to Dave and Denise Hiemstra for the care of their father and support during his final days.
