GILBERT - Geraldine Gilbert, age 78, of Comstock Park, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012 and is now walking in her rose garden with Jesus. She is survived by her loving husband, Edwin Gilbert, daughters, Aleta (Mark) Potts and Mary Gilbert, son, Steven (Susan) Gilbert, along with granddaughters, Amber and Hanna-Lee, grandsons, Eric, Steven-Lee and Franklin. Geraldine was originally from Mt. Vernon, Indiana and has a twin brother, Gerald, also brother, Larue, sisters, Jean and Susan. She worked for The Bureau of Ships in Washington D.C. during the Korean War, where she met and married her husband, Edwin, a Marine. They had been married 57 years. Geraldine was active in her church and various Sewing Circles and Senior Citizens groups. She has been a Worthy Matron of the Marne, Lotus and Sparta Chapter of the Order of Eastern Stars and is a life member of the Rockford Chapter 215 O.E.S. Geraldine loved the rose garden she and her daughter, Mary created with more than 100 rose plants and decorations. Geraldine was the Indiana State Baking champion in 1952. She worked for a time in the family business, but excelled at being an excellent wife, mother and grandmother. Geraldine had a kind and caring heart and was always ready and willing to help others. Relatives and friends may meet Geraldine's family at the Beuschel Funeral Home 5018 Alpine Avenue from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., on Thursday, October 18, 2012. A service of celebration will be held at the Comstock Park United Church of Christ 62 Lamoreaux Dr. N.E. at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, on Friday, October 19, 2012 with Pastor Dick Woodward officiating. Internment will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Comstock Park United Church of Christ general fund.
