Harold "Putt" Fredrick Popma, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by family on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on July 14, 1942, to Harold and Irene Popma, whom preceded him in death. Putt dedicated his life to his family, community, and passions, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and service.
A devoted husband, Putt celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage with his cherished wife, Nancy on August 1; he is also survived by their children, Shelly (Jim) Bradshaw, Don (Monica) Popma, Jacki DeYoung, and Rod (Debbie) Popma; grandchildren, Josh (Karli) Bradshaw, Kyle (Madison) Bradshaw, Rachel (Jake) TeBos, Morgan Popma, Makayla Popma, Adam Popma, Megan (Kellan) Groenhout, Brandon (Allison) DeYoung, Chad (Amanda) Konyndyk; 13 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Cheryl (Bob) Velding, Bob (Donna) Popma, Dan (Kathie) Popma, Steve Popma, and Paul (Nancy) Popma, along with many nieces and nephews.
Putt's professional life was marked by dedication and leadership. He worked as a racetrack electrician at Berlin Raceway and served as a Berlin Fair board member for 30 years. His commitment to community was further reflected in his roles as past president and member of the West Walker Sportsman Club and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also the proud owner of Putt's Electric. Beyond his professional and community engagements, Putt was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and NASCAR racing. Yet, above all, he cherished every moment spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, and was known for his big heart and great sense of humor.
Relatives and friends can meet the family for a visitation at Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Ave NW, Comstock Park, MI, on Thursday, August 21, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with a rosary being prayed starting at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 22, 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 18784 8th Ave, Wright Twp., with an hour of visitation held at the church prior, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
