Obituary

Jay Visser, a man of great faith in Jesus Christ, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend entered into his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the age of 86.

Jay leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 66 years Kathi Visser; children, Jeff and Deb Visser, Scott and Mary Visser, Mark and Kim Visser, and Shari and Ted Smith; grandchildren, Heather and Jordan Wolfe, Chad Visser, Tara and Jordan Klein, Tanner Visser, Korey and Liz Visser, Kevin and Kendra Visser, and Ashley, Austin and Andrew Smith; great-grandchildren Kaelyn Bronkema, and Sawer and Charlotte Klein; and brother, Peter (Deb) Visser.

Jay worked in the Automotive Equipment Business and finally fully retired in 2022, at the age of 82. He was very mechanical and could fix almost anything.

Jay was active in various roles at church over the years including Fairview Reformed Church, Bella Vista Church, Lake Community Church and New Community Church.

Jay and Kathi loved to travel. They had many wonderful vacations over the years. They enjoyed 40 years at their cottage on Big Star Lake. Jay loved giving his grandkids golf cart rides and money to spend at the candy store. They also spent many winter vacations at their condo on Hutchinson Island Florida.

Jay loved to hunt and fish. He had many great trips out West hunting. He also spent many years with his sons, grandsons, brothers and friends at the hunting cabin up North. For many years he went up North on Mondays with Jeff or various friends to shoot targets and have fun.

Jay's life was a testimony of love, faith and devotion to his wife and family. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Gathering of family and friends will take place on on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, at New Community Church, 2340 Dean Lake Ave NE., Grand Rapids MI, 49505, with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 11:00 am.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Covenant Living Center of the Great Lakes Assisted Living and Faith Hospice for their care and compassion during the last few weeks.
