Obituary

Van ECK, (CASWELL) JEAN H., age 88, of Rockford, Michigan passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, August 17, 2015 after battling kidney disease over the last few years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Bob VanEck; parents, Jay and Jenny Caswell; brother, Del Caswell; son in-laws, Denny Dagley and Doug DeWard. Jean is survived by her loving children, Jennifer Dagley-DeWard and Rob (Melissa) VanEck; precious grandchildren, Sarah Dagley, Trevor (Jill) Dagley, Steve VanEck, Mike (Corrie) VanEck, Karly (Todd) Walker and Nick VanEck; eight great grandchildren; older sister, Doris Fulbright; sister in-law, Leta "Tiny" Caswell, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on March 30, 1927 and had many stories to share how West Michigan has changed over the years. She had a fulfilling career working as a legal secretary, and later as business manager for the local branch of Pitney Bowes, as well as Water Craft in Rockford, Michigan. Jean spent most of her life as a resident of Bostwick Lake. She was well known by her community as a strong woman who could do anything she set her mind to and was also a wonderful dancer. Jean was an avid reader of mystery stories, who loved to entertain and could play a great hand of poker. When asked about her best advice for living a full life, she said, "Play it cool, life is too short to be upset all time." She will be fondly remember and greatly missed. The family will receive family and friends at the Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue, Comstock Park, on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Thomas Lawton from Bostwick Lake Congregational Church.
