Obituary

JOHN (JACK) EDWARD KEARNEY of Belmont, MI passed away of natural causes at the age of 94 on May 1, 2022. Born in Scranton, PA on August 16, 1927 to John and Helen Kearney, Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie, infant son Johnny, grandson Ryan, and two brothers, David and Stewart. Jack is survived by his sons Rick (Patti) Kearney of White Cloud, MI; Dr. Patrick (Lori) Kearney of Durango, CO; and daughter Karen (Ron) Barnhart of Sparta, MI. As well there is a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren to carry on his influence, teachings, and legacy. Jack raised his family to respect our country and flag and was himself a veteran of the Army Air Corps (now known as the Air Force). Raised during the depression he understood the importance of family and as a provider he demanded that we have a hot meal every night for supper. We, as he often did as a child, never went to bed hungry. A "Master Story-Teller" you often found Dad telling (or re-telling) a story of his youth or of family history. He loved an audience. Blessed with broad shoulders he often said that God gave him those so that he could help others with their load. An independent thinker Jack founded and lead his own food brokerage, I.S.B. Sales, for over 30 years until he retired at the young age of 86. A sign in his office stated, "INTEGRITY HAS NO RULES; YOU HAVE IT OR YOU DON'T". He did! An avid outdoorsman Jack loved to hunt and fish and his favorite spot was The Cabin in the Upper Peninsula. What had started as a deer-hunting camp among five friends had become Jack & Marie's Paradise. They would often go north and sometimes stayed for weeks at a time. Together they taught us that marriage was more than just a love story, it was two people facing life and all of its bright spots and challenges and coming out on top together. While active in his children's lives and interests he also found time for a little "Jack time" as well. A life member of Madison Square Sportsmen's Club in Rockford he shot trap and skeet in leagues and in his words ran the kitchen. Especially in his later years he looked forward to the bi-monthly meetings and social aspect of the club. Per Jack's wishes cremation has taken place. A private family ceremony will take place at a yet to be determined date at the Cabin where he will be interred alongside Marie. We take joy in the fact that his suffering is over and that Heaven will be rocking with a swing tune and Jack and Marie will be jitterbugging, dancers reunited for eternity with each other and with their Lord, Jesus Christ.
