STEFFENS, JOHN, E. age 91, of Alpine Township, a proud fruit farmer. John passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, June 6, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rose Steffens; baby, Patricia Steffens; sister, Lucille Clonan; brother-in-laws, John Clonan and Joseph Arends; and nephew, Doug Steffens. John is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sharon (Wall) Steffens; children, Rosanne, Mary, Robert (Christine), Leo (Julie) and Janette (Eric Bruins); grandchildren, Mikaylee, Colton, Grace, Lucy, Emily, Jerrud and Brianna; brother, Joseph (Phyllis) Steffens; sister, Rosemary Arends; in-laws, Hollis (Barbara) Wall; several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
John served as a Sargent in the United States Army; fighting on the front lines during the Korean War, receiving two battle stars. He was a life long farmer and apple grower in Alpine Township. John enjoyed watching the farm grown. He loved to see it progress. After he retired Dad loved to drive around in his pick up helping wherever he could. John especially enjoyed his grandchildren and cared for them deeply. He was a Eucharist minister and usher for several years at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. John served on many committees over the years including Michigan Apple Committee, Pomesters, Farm Bureau, Alpine Township and Board of Appeals.
The family will meet with family and friends at the Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue NW, Comstock Park, on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M., and 6:00 to 9:00 P.M., with a Vigil Service at 8:30 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate John's life will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 11 A.M., with visitation one hour prior, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1200 Alpine Church Road, Comstock Park with Fr. Thomas G. Simons presiding and under the auspice of the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment at Alpine Center Cemetery on 2382 Seven Mile Road. The family would like to thank Spectrum Health Staff for all their compassion and care given to John. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard or Holy Trinity Catholic Church or Comstock Park Rotary Foundation.
