MARTINEZ - Jose (Joe) M. Martinez, age 73, of Kent City, went peacefully home to the Lord, on Sunday, May 18, 2014. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 14, 1940. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Torres Martinez and his mother, Martina (nee Guzman) Martinez and sister, Lydia Jaso. He is survived by his loving wife, Meta Martinez of 49 years; beloved children, Christine (David) Wernette, Jose V. (Nikki) Martinez, and Nicholas M. Martinez; grandchildren, Pvt.US Army Nicholas S., Mavric, Evan, Mia and Zoe; sisters and brother, Mary (Carlos) Rerat, Olga Olson, Gloria (Don) Nelson, and Louis Paul Martinez; brother-in-law and friend Ross Taylor; cousins, nieces and nephews. Joe was a graduate of Fremont (center of the universe) High School and Ferris State College. He retired from the State of Michigan. Joe was a gentleman and a kind and loving man. His family was his treasure. He was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was very involved with the Knights of Columbus. The family will receive family and friends at the Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue, Comstock Park on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M., with a Vigil Service at 8:30 P.M., with Rev. Msgr. Terrence L. Stewart. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Rev. Msgr. Terrence L. Stewart officiating, with visitation one hour prior at the church. Inurnment will be held at the Idlewild Cemetery, 2175 18 Mile Road, Kent City.
