Joyce Yvonne (Glass) Thowson, age 97, of Comstock Park, Michigan, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, June 5, 2026. She was born October 4, 1928, in Grand Rapids, MI, to the late Marvin and Margaret Glass. Joyce's faith was very important to her and she converted to Catholicism at age 18.

Joyce married John "Jack" Thowson in 1965. Together they enjoyed visiting the Grand Haven area beaches and watching the sunset. Family meant everything to Joyce, her and Jack never missed the grandchildren's sporting events and special activities. Even the grandchildren's teammates knew them as Grandma and Grandpa. Family and friends will always remember the pool parties they hosted in their back yard. In her spare time Joyce would make fleece blankets for babies and the local women's shelters.

Survivors include her children, David (Sue) Chesney and Laura (Jack) Ottenwess; grandchildren, Dr.'s Jason (Kim) Chesney, David (Meghan) Ottenwess, Marti (Dan) Kragt, and Nate (Erin) Ottenwess; and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Alexandria, and Connor Chesney, Maddie and TJ Kragt, and Ella and Claire Ottenwess.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Jack; her parents; and her 3 sisters, Betty, Shirley, and Nancy.

Gathering of family and friends will take place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 5:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue NW, Comstock Park, MI, 49321, with a Memorial Service at 7:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Emmanuel Hospice or Meadowlark Retirement Village for their Life Enrichment for Older Adults fund.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Meadowlark Retirement Village for their care and companionship over the last four years and to Emmanuel Hospice especially Joyce's case manager, Jamie DeKorte for their help throughout this difficult time.
