Kathleen Runchey Saettler, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025. Born on June 18, 1940, in Saginaw, Michigan, Kathleen lived a life marked by devotion to her family, passion for education, and dedication to community service.
Kathleen pursued her education, achieving her Master's degree in education from Western Michigan University and subsequently her Doctorate from the University of Illinois. Her career as a teacher at Lincoln School was a testament to her commitment to nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning.
Beyond her professional life, Kathleen was a devoted homemaker, creating a warm and loving environment for her family. Her volunteer work was a significant part of her life, and she made lasting contributions through her efforts with Meals on Wheels, the Women's Auxiliary, the Veterans Home, and Art Prize. She touched many lives and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she served.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herman, with whom she shared 53 wonderful years of marriage; and many of her siblings. She is survived by her loving children, Ruth (Ashraf) Siddiqi and William Saettler Sr.; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 2510 Richmond St NW, Grand Rapids. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation an hour prior to the mass from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
