BARRETT - Mary Lynn Barrett age 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at her home in Grand Rapids. Lynn was born in Chicago where she attended Sienna High School and DePaul University. She married William Barrett with whom she raised five children; Nancy (Tony) Rettinhouse, Joan (Rich) Heffelbower, William J. Barrett Jr., Julie (John) Barnes and Ellen (Scott) Bauman. Lynn and Bill moved to the Grand Rapids area in 1963. They settled in Comstock Park, where Lynn was active with the Girl Scouts and the public schools. When their nest emptied, in 1992 Lynn and Bill moved to Heritage Hill in Grand Rapids. Lynn volunteered for the M.C. Blodgett Guild at Blodgett Hospital. An avid bridge player and traveler, Lynn was also a frequent patron of local Broadway theatre productions. Lynn was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, William J. Barrett; mother, Grace Costello Evans and her father, Charles Evans. She is survived by all five of her children; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at All Saints Cemetery near Chicago, Illinois where Lynn and Bill will be interred with family.
