GAGNON - Mary Anne (Dunneback) Gagnon, age 93, of Alpine Township entered eternal rest on December 17, 2020 surrounded by family at St. Ann's Home. She was born on August 27, 1927 to Anthony and Rose Dunneback, the youngest of four; Elizabeth, Frances, Paul and Mary Anne, all of whom preceded her in death. Mary Anne loved the farm life and helped with the usual farm chores. In grade school, she enjoyed tap dancing, and 4-H cooking and sewing. She was a 1945 graduate of Catholic Central High School, then worked at Applied Arts, Grand Rapids.
In February 1946, on a winter, snowy evening, her parents, Anthony and Rose, were killed in a tragic car/train crash on Fruit Ridge Avenue NW. At that time, no warning flashers were in place. The family stayed together, Paul took over the farm. In 1950, Mary Anne married William "Bill" Gagnon and they had five children; Antoinette (Toni), Gregory, Wayne, Shirley, and Kent. Bill worked as the plant manager at Model Coverall, and enjoyed coaching his sons' baseball teams. In 1971, he succumbed to a two-year battle with leukemia at age 47. Mary Anne was then a stay-at-home mom raising five children ages 6-15. When all were in upper grades, Mary Anne worked at Quest Engineering, retiring at age 68. She enjoyed golf, dancing, doing crossword puzzles (with a pen), and baking pies with her homemade tasty crusts! She also baked and decorated specialty cakes, and traveling. Also, fun times with family and grandchildren.
In 2012, Mary Anne underwent four major surgeries including open heart surgery. Since then, more health problems limited her activities. Surviving Mary Anne are her daughters, Sergeant Major Antoinette (Toni) Gagnon Ross, US Army, Retired, Shirley Gagnon Allen (Ken Dahlman); sons, Gregory (Sharon Laper), Wayne (Margo) and Kent (Teresa) Gagnon; grandchildren, Bill and Susan, Andrew and Erin, Rachel and Hunter, Roch, Gilbert, Amelia, Tyler, Jordan and Kaleigh, Isaac, Olivia, Holly, Luke and Brittney, Emily, and Max; great-grandchildren, Piper and Sadie; her sister-in-law, Mary L.
