Michael Charles Dunham, age 79, passed away on August 8, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born on April 12, 1946, in Grand Rapids to Frank and Donna Dunham. Michael grew up in the Creston neighborhood, where he formed lifelong friendships with Gary Lance, Robin Teachout, and Terry McCarthy, who he stayed in touch with since third grade. A natural athlete and leader, he played football and baseball as well as being honored as homecoming king during high school. He went on to serve his country with distinction in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a proud recipient of the Purple Heart. Following his military service, Michael worked for many years at Meijer. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Above all, he was proud of his family and deeply involved in their lives—coaching his daughters' softball teams and supporting their endeavors with unwavering enthusiasm. Michael is survived by his loving wife of over 23 years, Margaret Dunham; children, Robin Haaksma and Kelly (Adam) DeYoung; stepchildren Jamie Lomashewich and Michael Lomashewich; grandchildren, Katrina Haaksma, Heidi Haaksma, Megan Haaksma, Lizzy (Steven) Dyke, Sammy DeYoung, Joey DeYoung, Lexi, Zane, Zoey, Shayla, and Adriana; sister, Diane (Keith) Schmuck; and nephews John, Jeff, and Jason. He shared many joyful moments with Margaret biking, traveling, visiting the beach, attending Whitecaps baseball games, and visiting the casino. Michael was known for his sacrificial love, generous spirit, quick wit, and enduring sense of humor even through health challenges. He was what you would describe as a true gentleman. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Emmanuel Hospice and Stacey Sanford for their compassionate care.

A Service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 6:00 PM with military honors at Beuschel Funeral Home 5018 Alpine Ave, Comstock Park.
