Mike finished his last ride Saturday, June 3, 2023, with his family at his side cheering him Home. The Lord gave him a welcome hug. The communion of saints awaited him. There was also, we imagine a setback table; a new set of golf clubs; and his kindred spirits, Bo Schembechler and Father John Joseph Kearns, to show him around. A natural leader and lifelong teacher, his angel assignment is the Educator Support Team. Mike is survived by his wife, Joan (Witte) Weiler; children, Matthew Sinclair (Lindsey) Weiler, Sara (Joe) Brasic, and Megan (Mike) Hojnacki as well as his dear grandchildren, Maya, Simone, Addie, Ava, and Curtis Daniel. Mike attended Central Michigan University on a track scholarship and earned 3 degrees in education. He loved teaching and coaching at Newaygo High School. He went on to lead schools as a Superintendent in Evart, Michigan; then Sparta Area Schools; and then the Kent Intermediate School District. He tried retirement in 2005. It didn't take. He had more to give. His passion for education led him to Kent City Community Schools where he empowered his team to "drive the bus", and led the initiative to pass a bond to create facilities for the future. Mike's hobbies included bicycling, reading, wine, and playing cards. He passions were his family, his faith, and Michigan football. Mike loved his 5 siblings, 20 brothers and sister in-laws, and 31 nieces and nephews. He was their lodestar. He appreciated the many co-educators, colleagues, neighbors, and friends that enriched his life. His family thanks Dr. Brinker and his colleagues at Corewell Health for their care that gifted him so many extra years in his cancer journey. We also thank Corewell Hospice for providing comfort and support. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 14 11:00 AM at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Belmont. Family will receive visitors on Thursday at the Beuschel Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, and at church starting at 10:00 AM before mass.
