Norbert "Nub" William Antor was born June 21, 1925 to Frank and Minnie Antor. The third of six children, he spent his childhood on the family farm in Alpine Township, attending Holy Trinity Catholic School and then graduating from Comstock Park High School. He was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Norbert served in the Army during WWII and was wounded during a fierce battle in Anzio, Italy in 1944. He spent the next years in military hospitals before being discharged in 1946. Returning home, he met Florence "Flo" Grasiewicz, and they married in 1949. Together, Nub and Flo built the one and only home they would live in during their 74 years of marriage. Nub began his career at Lear Siegler Aviation in Grand Rapids, where he would work for 35 years. Nub and Flo had 6 children, and life revolved around joyfully supporting each child's school activities, attending sporting events, and enjoying all that the outdoors offer, including fishing, sledding, camping, and just playing in the backyard.
Nub was not one to rest or relax, so beyond doing all of his household chores, he enjoyed hobbies such as bowling, golfing (he had a hole-in-one), fishing, and woodworking. But most of all, Nub loved playing Set-Back, a card game that was a family tradition for both of Nub and Flo's families. You couldn't escape a visit or a family event without playing a game of Set-Back with Nub. He was an excellent player and a spirited competitor who wasn't afraid to tease his opponents.
Nub was an honorable man, lived his values, and was known for his kindness and calm, positive spirit. He always put others' needs before his own. He is known to have never said an unkind word about anyone. He always had a smile and a kind, welcoming greeting for all. He was truly an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be remembered for his tender heart, kindness, and smile, but most of all his love and devotion to his family. Nothing delighted Nub more than children. He never tired of spending time with his grandkids, and they all loved spending time with Grandpa!
It is truly sad to have lost Nub, but he will always remain close in our hearts, and we will never forget his inspiration and all he has taught us about life and loving one another.
