He was born on April 26, 1938, to Howard and Clarice (Pelton) Carpenter, of Belmont, MI, in his grandparent's home in Comstock Park. Paul graduated from Rockford High School with the class of 1957. Paul found love again with Marjorie (Potter) Blakely of Nashville, MI and they wed in September of 1994. After 22 years of marriage, Marj passed in October 2016.

He also enjoyed serving his community as a volunteer firefighter for Plainfield Township for 15 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. He was a man who was always willing to give of himself to help others. He enjoyed fly fishing, bowling and spending time with his family.
