Richard "Dick" Wallace Billin, age 91, of Comstock Park, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 28, 2026, with family by his side. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Richard was born October 16, 1934, in Grand Rapids to Spencer and Catherine (Rasmussen) Billin. He met the love of his life, Patricia "Pat" Ann Lynch, while attending Creston High School. They were married September 30, 1956 at the Second Congregational Church in Grand Rapids. They moved to Comstock Park in 1960 where they raised their family, worked, played and enjoyed their retirement. At the time of Pat's passing in 2021, they had celebrated 65 years of marriage!

Richard was a proud member of the US Navy and a Korean War veteran, serving from September 1954 to April 1956. He was assigned to the same ship his brother Ken was serving on, the USS Cotten (DD-669.) In 2023, he was accompanied by his son Rick on a Mid-Michigan Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. along with 73 other veterans.

Richard attended Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids. He was employed at Hausman Steel as an estimator for many years before moving on to Jelsema Concrete as a draftsman. He "retired" at age 65 but not being one to remain idle, he worked as a greenskeeper at English Hills Golf Course and a delivery driver for Eastern Floral until his early 80s when he was needed at home to care for his ailing wife. The transition to homemaker at this stage in life made for some hilarious stories, such as undercooked meat, overcooked vegetables and burnt popcorn!

Richard had many hobbies and interests during his long life. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He enjoyed watching many sports on TV with Pat, supporting his children and grandchildren at their events whenever possible and attending Comstock Park High School football games with his son Jeff. He was a longtime member of the Casino Club in Grand Rapids. He was absolutely meticulous about his lawn and landscaping-who needed Better Homes and Gardens when we had the Billin Backyard?! That attention to detail really came out with his Christmas lights and decorations which set the stage for the family's traditional Christmas Eve gatherings. A highlight was when Richard would disappear into the basement and the little ones would receive a phone call from Santa! Though he will be missed dearly, there are many wonderful memories to cherish.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and stepparents, Spencer and Bessie Billin and Catherine and William "Slim" Gibbs; father- and mother-in-law, Clayton and Nina Lynch; wife, Patricia; daughters, baby girl Billin and Lisa (Billin) Heintzelman; son-in-law, Robert Heintzelman; brother, Kenneth Billin; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Mary Ellen Billin; and sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Billin) and Donald Pell.

Richard is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey "Jeff" and Katrina Billin; son, Richard "Rick" Billin; sister-in-law, Faith Billin; grandchildren, Jason Billin; Andrew Billin; Matthew Billin; Heather (Billin) and Shawn Cronkhite; Robert "Bobby" and Renee Heintzelman; Hannah Heintzelman and Micheal Smith; Lisa Marie Heintzelman; Joshua Heintzelman; Jenna (Heintzelman) and Justin Thiede; Ashley (Spoelhof) and Sebastian Bedoya-Bueno; and Cassandra Spoelhof; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A very special "thank you" goes to son Rick, who devoted nearly five years to caring for his father following Pat's passing. As Richard's full-time caregiver, Rick continually adapted to the challenges of Alzheimer's disease, doing everything possible to keep his father healthy, safe, comfortable and happy. His unwavering dedication allowed Richard to remain in the home he loved until the end.

Per Richard's wishes, no funeral service will be held. Cremation has taken place through Beuschel Funeral Home. A private graveside ceremony for Richard and Patricia will take place at Rosedale Cemetery where they will be laid to rest in eternal peace.
