Obituary

Richard James "Dick" Alberts, aged 82, of Kent City, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 17th, 2022, with his wife by his side, after a brief period of failing health and battling a number of illnesses. He was born on April 22nd, 1940, the first child of Francis and Lucille Alberts. He was married to Sandra Alberts on June 28th, 1969. An auto parts counterman by trade, he and his wife started Alpine Automotive in 1972, owning their parts store for over 25 years. He also owned Wolverine Racing, Inc., where he followed his lifelong passion for open wheel racing, in which he found as much success as he did enjoyment, as well as in later years, owning and restoring Farmall tractors. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra; his son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Cathy Alberts; his beloved grandson, Gerrit; his siblings, sister Judy and brother-in-law Silvio deCardenas, sister Jean Dood, and brother Roger and sister-in-law Fern Alberts; sister-in-law Carol Zimmer, sister-in-law Nancy Timmer, and sister-in-law Alma Hofstra; as well as many, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grand nephews, friends, racers, and tractor guys alike. He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Billy and Marie Townsend; and his brothers-in-law, James Townsend and Richard Townsend. A Memorial Service to celebrate Dick's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday February 4, 2023 in the Mamrelund Lutheran Church Community Center, 4085 Lutheran Church Rd. NW. Kent City, MI. Relatives and friends may meet the family from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service in the Mamrelund Lutheran Church Community Center. Following the service, everyone is invited to join the family for a reception with food and refreshments. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make memorial contributions, the family asks that you consider Spectrum Health Hospice, who took such great care and showed tremendous compassion during his final months.
