Obituary

HESS - Robert "Bob" F. Hess, age 69, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 after years of battling diabetic complications and a debilitative stroke. He fought till the end. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret (Maitner) Hess; siblings, Donald Hess and Laura Hess-Meissner. He is survived by his siblings, Anna Hess-Hudson, Paul Hess, John Hess, Vincent "Buck" Hess; and many nieces and nephews. Bob only left Michigan once in his life: to serve his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. After his tour was up, Bob returned to Michigan to pursue his passions of hunting and fishing. He will be missed from the waters and woods of Michigan by us all. Bob worked in the tool & die industry for many years before his retirement from Pridgeon & Clay in Grand Rapids. He was known for his wit and stubborn determination which will be missed so much. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, May 29th, 2021 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 8890 Tamarack Road, Lakeview, Michigan, 48850. Robert "Bob" F. Hess passed away on February 20, 2021 after battling diabetic complications and a debilitative stroke three years ago. He fought till the end. Bob was born on January 11, 1952 in Grand Rapids to Walter and Margaret (Matiner) Hess, who preceded him in death. He leaves behind his four siblings Anna Hess-Hudson of Hartford, MI; Paul Hess of Wilmington, NC; John Hess of Kentwood, MI; and Vincent "Buck" Hess of Lisbon Falls, ME; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two siblings Donald Hess of Howard City, MI, and Laura Hess-Meissner of Kalamazoo, MI. May they now rest in peace together. Bob only left Michigan once to serve his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS John F. Kennedy and returned to Michigan after his tour to pursue his passions of hunting and fishing. He worked as a tool & die maker and retired from Pridgeon & Clay in Grand Rapids, MI. Bob was known for his wit and stubborn determination which will be missed so much.
