Robert Carl Shadowens, 86, of Comstock Park, MI, passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2023. Robert (Bob) was born March 4, 1937, to Carl and Hazel Shadowens in Grand Rapids, MI. In June of 1956, Bob volunteered for the Army and worked as a bridge engineer and demolition specialist. He spent his time in the military in both California and Germany. After the Army, Bob joined Meijer Inc where he started working in the warehouse and worked his way up to a Senior Management position within the Meijer Distribution team. He and his team were responsible for the creation and building of the Meijer Lansing Distribution Complex along with several major projects for the company. After Meijer, he joined Speedrack Midwest as President. During his time there he made countless lifelong friends- all of whom will miss Bob greatly. Beyond work, what created the most joy for Bob was his family and friends. He enjoyed helping others and would always find the time if there was someone needing help. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was delighted to share his love of the outdoors with so many. Truly, nothing brought him greater joy than time with his family. He was always a splendid host for ad hoc summer barbecues or the many holiday events held at his home. Bob had so many memorable outings at his cabin in Baldwin, Mi with his grandchildren. He leaves behind an incredible legacy of teaching and mentoring his family in so many ways. But most importantly, he showed everyone in his life every day that family is the most important thing you have. That family will miss Bob, and his quick wit and sarcasm more than anything. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Hazel; daughter, Cheryl Stowe; brother-in-law Darryl Hosford, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Marilyn Hosford; children, Robert Carl Shadowens Jr. (Kelly), Michael Alan Shadowens (Erika); and his son-in-law, Mark Stowe. Fondly remembering their Grandpa and everything he taught them are his 15 Grandchildren; Nathan Stowe (Bethany), Eric Shadowens (Fiancée Doreen), Joshua Shadowens (Jessica), Matthew Stowe (Bailey), Erin Shadowens (Andrew), Jordan Shadowens (Ale), Adam Stowe (Kiersten), Alex Shadowens (Kaylee), Katherine Stevens (Aaron), Rachael Engwall (Josh), Sarah Shadowens, Leah Bovard (Charlie), Alyssa Shadowens, Carl Shadowens, Chase Shadowens; and 17 great grandchildren.
