Daniel Burns Obituary

Daniel J Burns, age 86, of Rockford, MI, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 7, 2024. He was born on January 4, 1938, at his family's home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Alice (McKrill) Burns; his brothers, Stephen (Arlene) Burns, Franklin Burns, Robert (Delores) Burns; his sisters, Bertha (Art) Kent, Bernice (Maurice) Schneider, Ruth (Rex) Middleton, Barbara (Martin) Skelonc, Alice Catherine "Kay" (Phillip) Hallock; his parents-in-law, Lloyd and Geneva Tatro, brother-in-law, Carl Thomas; daughter, Nancy Marshall; stepson, Carey Zoet; grandson, Dalton Mazie. He will be lovingly missed by his wife Nancy (Tatro) Burns; their children, Linda Stark, Mary (Ken) Mazie, Chris (Dianne Ring) Zoet, Steve (Kimberly) Zoet; and dearly missed by his 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; sister, Janet (Paul) Harris; sister-in-law, Jodie Burns; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hull, Carol Thomas, Julie (Ron) Kindle, a very large number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Daniel served in the US Army and the Army Reserves. Dan was certified executive housekeeper by Michigan State University and worked at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans for over 30 years. Dan graduated from Reppert School of Auctioneering and the Certified Auctioneers Institute. He ran Burns Auction Service for about 20 years and was honored by being inducted into the Michigan State Auctioneers Hall of Fame. Dan sold real estate for Century Twenty-One, receiving many awards for volume of sales and quality service. Dan loved boxing and supported the Michigan Golden Gloves. Dan enjoyed hunting in Wyoming and Michigan with friends and family and proudly displayed mounts on the walls of his home. He was a member of Assumption of the BVM Church where he was baptized as an infant. Dan lived all but 6 years of his life on the Burns farm. He hosted many long remembered large family reunions with attendees from many states. Dan was a member of the Conklin Knights of Columbus and the Sparta Moose Lodge for over 50 years. Visitation with the family will take place at the Beuschel Funeral Home located at 5018 Alpine Ave, Comstock Park, MI on Friday, April 12 from 5:00-8:00 pm. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 13 at Assumption BVM Church, 6369 Belmont Ave, Belmont, MI at 11:00 am with Fr. Chuck Schwartz as Celebrant. Dan wll lie in state one hour prior to mass at Assumption BVM Church, starting at 10:00 am. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Assumption.
